D-Day Conneaut 2015
Date and time
Location
Conneaut Township Park
Conneaut, Ohio 480 Lake Road Conneaut, Ohio 44030Description
D-Day Conneaut 2015 is open to the public on Friday August 21 and Saturday August 22, 2015. Online registration is free – there will be NO on site registration this year. This year, preregistration to reserve your camp space will be especially important as we anticipate record numbers of attendees and visitors to remember the 71st anniversary of the Normandy Invasion.
We welcome reenactors on site as early as Tuesday afternoon, August 18. As always, we are grateful for those who choose to come early to help with set up. Allied, allied civilian and French Resistance reenactors can check in on site at the main park entrance. Axis reenactors should proceed to the Chestnut street entrance for check in at the new additional German camp area near the upper pavilion at the east side of the park.
A program for local nursing home residents, many of whom are veterans, will take place Thursday from 1200h-1800h. A Thursday night movie in the park will be featured again, weather permitting.
On Friday, Allied soldiers can expect pre-invasion training and practice landings. Classes open to all women reenactors attending the event will occur on both Friday and Saturday; Axis soldiers can also look forward to in-camp training and scenarios.
Saturday will be busy as usual but we look forward to additional in-camp activities during the day as well. Check the web site for a full schedule. D-Day Conneaut 2015 will include several social events. Friday will feature an on-site concert by the FUBAR Boys and a reprise of the biergarten at Pizzi's. Saturday will include the reenactor, volunteer and veteran spaghetti dinner and the USO.
And of course there are the tactical recreations…. We plan a reprise of Foucarville and La Fiere, and will continue the inclusion of a Commonwealth beach for the Landings. Attacks on the Axis stronghold by French Resistance fighters will also occur through both days.
The Allied and Axis messes will be back in 2015 to provide WWII appropriate fare to reenactors on Friday and Saturday. Bring your mess tins! We also anticipate a wide variety of vendors providing WWII original and reproduction items. This year we will list registered vendors approximately a month before the event.
Last, we will be using the same parking constraints as last year. Friday during programming, there is restricted access to the camps via modern vehicles and for those in the Axis camp, there will be a shuttle for equipment. Also, because of volume, reenactor parking will be at the elementary school about a block from the park so please plan accordingly. Shuttles will run on a predertimed schedule that is available at registration.
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, across from the park, will offer advance sale two-day parking passes to registered reenactors. Tickets can be purchased at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2015-good-shepherd-lutheran-church-parking-d-day-conneaut-2015-tickets-16687276092
Saturday parking passes are available from the Conneaut Arts Center approximately 3 blocks east of the Allied camp. Tickets can be purchased at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2015-conneaut-arts-center-parking-d-day-conneaut-2015-tickets-16687231960
